Embrasser l'imparfait :
une ôde à toutes les peaux
EDITORIAL / WRITING
For centuries, society has perceived differences as flaws. Skin, while common to all, has been subjected to a history of slowly increasing negative biases when differing from the norm of being soft and fair. The unfavorable light in which society shows “imperfect” skin has become a real social issue that has impacted a lot of people’s mental health.
The aim of this dissertation is to assess the importance of representing all types of skins. The question at hand is: how can graphic design help spread a kinder view towards usually shunned skin types ?
To answer this question, it is important to take into account the reason(s) why the general opinion has come to the way it is now, and how activists are currently trying to change mentalities.
